Introduction to DNS(Domain Name System)

 


DNS stands for Domain Name System. DNS is  an Server which was Introduced by Paul Mockapetris and Jhon Postel in 1983 



DNS is used to resolve  Hostname to IP Address, and IP Address to Hostname here the Hostname refers to as Computer Name and the IP Address is the assigned IP version 4 address to the Client Computers. 

DNS is also used to Locate Email Servers in Email Delivery.
  • For example, when you send an email to "user@darkinvent.com" then DNS is very important to locate the "darkinvent.com" domain and deliver the mail
DNS is an open Protocol it uses port number 53 (TCP/UDP), it can be applied to all Operating System Like Linux, Unix, Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware, MAC OS etc. The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical decentralized naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network.


HOW DNS WORKS
 
When a user wants to visit Darkinvent, He type "http://www.darkinvent.com" into the Address Bar of Browser. Once domain or website name has been entered, it is looked up on a Domain Name System where it is translated into an IP address i.e. more easily interpreted by a computer, e.g. 53.41.139.75. using this IP address, user computer locate the Darkinvent web page and forward that information to user browser.
